Seeking a Vice President of Development (VPD) to oversee this MS advocacy organization's entire fundraising operation. This individual will drive engagement with investors in Mississippi and across the country and generate the resources necessary to accomplish our mission.

The VPD is a closer. He or she understands why it’s important to develop respectful, long-term relationships with prospects and investors. He or she is unafraid of accountability for their results. He or she wakes up every morning thinking about how to engage and serve investors. He or she wants to work with high-energy, highly-driven entrepreneurial coworkers who are committed to the fundamental transformation of Mississippi. The position requires up to 50% travel within state. The VPD will report to the CEO and work out of the Ridgeland office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Annual Development Plan: In coordination with the multi-year strategic plan, the VPD will create, implement, and update a comprehensive annual development plan. This plan will address major donors, small donors, direct mail programs, foundation grants, cultivation programs, development publications, and other items necessary to achieve our annual fundraising goals.

• Investor Relations: The VPD will network with the CEO to cultivate potential investors and present them with a compelling case for support. VPD will make donor visits and own a portfolio of investors. He or she will ensure all visits and contacts with donors are properly recorded in the donor database.

• Grant Requests: The VPD will be responsible for developing and pursuing grant requests to foundations and others as necessary with the assistance of his or her development team.

• Direct Mail: The VPD will plan and oversee direct mail campaigns as specified in the annual development plan.

• Development Publications: The VPD will work with the comms team in developing all publications that are primarily designed as informational pieces for current and potential donors.

• Team: The VPD will supervise the Development Manager in her role on the development team and make recommendations on how the CEO’s time can be most effectively utilized to execute the development plan.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Deep understanding of and commitment to the mission of the organization
• Demonstrated ability to raise significant funds for nonprofit or policy-focused organizations
• 5+ years of experience delivering exceptional customer service and be able to demonstrate through examples
• Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to be a self-starter
• Amazing listener, such as to make investors feel heard and stay engaged
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Experience managing, building, and leading a team
