Controller
Location: Terry, MS

Service Specialists recruiting agency is seeking an experienced Controller for a growing specialty contractor based in Terry, Mississippi. The company performs complex projects throughout the Southeast involving earthwork, piping, facilities, environmental remediation, and heavy civil work.

This is a hands-on role for someone with a strong accounting or finance background who is comfortable working closely with company leadership and operations. Experience with a small to mid-sized business, contractor, or privately held company is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Daily job costing and comparison of actual job costs to estimates
• Weekly payroll review; payroll processing is handled by others
• Daily P&L updates
• Coordinate with outside CPA firm for tax review, planning, and monthly close
• Complete monthly books by the 10th of the following month
• Ensure contracts, W-9s, and Certificates of Insurance are in place for all subcontractors before work and payment
• Invoice projects weekly or twice monthly and follow up on collections
• Prepare rolling two-month cash flow projections
• Prepare and submit annual Contractor License renewals and Secretary of State filings for each state of operation
• Handle insurance renewals, claims, and audits
• Prepare and maintain WIP reporting
• Review and approve weekly payables, including issuing checks
• Prepare monthly MD&A (Management’s Discussion & Analysis)

What We’re Looking For

• Strong accounting and/or finance background
• Experience with job costing, financial reporting, forecasting, and month-end close
• Construction, oil & gas, trucking, contracting, or service industry experience is a plus
• Small business, contractor, or privately held company experience preferred
• Strong understanding of WIP reporting and project-based accounting
• Tech-forward mindset with an interest in AI integration and process improvement
• Ability to help evaluate and implement new accounting, estimating, cost-tracking, and resource-utilization systems
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-performing environment
