Litigation Attorney- Government & Municipal Law 
Location: Jackson, Mississippi
Salary: $120,000–$160,000 DOE
Schedule: In-office with travel throughout Mississippi

A well-established Jackson law firm is looking for a Litigation Attorney to join its growing governmental and municipal practice. This is a unique opportunity for an attorney who enjoys litigation but wants exposure to work beyond a traditional defense practice. The firm represents municipalities and governmental entities throughout Mississippi, handling a broad range of matters involving local government, annexation, disputes, and civil litigation. You do not need prior municipal or governmental law experience. The firm is looking for a strong litigator who can learn the practice and wants to take ownership of meaningful cases.

In this role

  • Represent municipalities and governmental entities throughout Mississippi

  • Handle civil litigation from initial pleadings through resolution

  • Work on matters involving annexation, municipal disputes, governmental issues, and other complex litigation

  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents

  • Attend hearings, mediations, depositions, and court proceedings

  • Advise clients and develop practical litigation strategies

  • Travel throughout Mississippi as needed to serve clients and attend proceedings

  • Work closely with experienced attorneys while developing increasing independence and client responsibility

About you

  • J.D. from an accredited law school

  • Licensed and in good standing with the Mississippi Bar, or able to obtain appropriate licensure

  • Litigation experience strongly preferred

  • Judicial clerkship experience will also be considered for attorneys earlier in their careers

  • Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills

  • Comfortable managing deadlines and multiple active matters

  • Confident communicating directly with clients

  • Willing and able to travel as cases require

  • Interested in building a long-term litigation practice

Compensation & Benefits

  • $120,000–$160,000 base salary, depending on experience

  • Performance bonus opportunity

  • 1,850 annual billable-hour requirement

  • Firm pays approximately 80% of employee health insurance

  • 401(k) match up to 4%
