Service Specialists is recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of a leading client in Central Mississippi. This individual will lead the design, development, and optimization of generator systems and related mechanical equipment. The role is critical to supporting product design, engineering improvements, and operational performance while ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in generator systems, mechanical design, and project management, with the ability to take projects from concept through implementation. This position requires a hands-on engineer who can collaborate across departments and provide technical leadership on complex mechanical systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design, develop, and improve generator systems, mechanical components, and related equipment.
Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and technical documentation.
Evaluate generator designs for performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
Support the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of generator systems in the field and in manufacturing environments.
Collaborate with operations, production, maintenance, sales, and project teams to develop solutions that meet customer and business needs.
Perform engineering calculations, simulations, and analyses to validate mechanical designs.
Manage projects from initial concept through testing, implementation, and post-installation support.
Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and contractors regarding generator components and mechanical systems.
Ensure all designs comply with applicable safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in product performance, manufacturing processes, and system reliability.
Prepare project budgets, schedules, technical reports, and presentations for management.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
Experience
Minimum of five years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
Demonstrated experience designing, servicing, manufacturing, or supporting generator systems is required.
Experience with diesel generators, standby power systems, power generation equipment, or industrial mechanical systems is strongly preferred.
Proven ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
Technical Skills
Proficiency with CAD software, including SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar design platforms.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, power generation systems, and manufacturing processes.
Experience with finite element analysis (FEA), modeling, and simulation tools is preferred.
Knowledge of generator components, cooling systems, fuel systems, and related mechanical assemblies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Familiarity with ERP and project management systems is a plus.
